We are a family farm raising purebred Rideau Arcotts. Our focus is on breeding and raising healthy, high-quality sheep. Our Story
The Arrival of Rideaus
As a small family farm, we work hand in hand with David's parents who also raise sheep and crops. Together we were lambing about 200 ewes once a year in the early spring. As we grew our young family, it seemed as if there wasn't enough time in a day for the labor requirements to lamb and care for 200 ewes and their babies. I needed more time for our kids and David spent more and more time alone in the barn. We decided we needed to make a drastic change.
Our trip started at 3:00am on a Thursday morning. We only encountered one simple mechanical issue and made it across the Candain border at 1:45am Friday, and to the farm around 3am. After a couple hour cat nap, we loaded up our 40 ewes and 1 ram and started the return journey. After a delay at the border and a quick checkup from the border vet it was time to head home. We reached our farm at 4:20am on Saturday. I'm not sure who was happier to get out and stretch their legs, us or the Rideaus!
